The Test and Why Us?
The Birmingham Grammar School Consortium was formed by a group of grammar schools in the Birmingham area to collaborate on the admissions process and administer a common entrance examination known as the 11 plus exam. The aim is to provide a fair and standardised process for selecting students based on their academic abilities for Year 7 entry into the participating grammar schools.
In Birmingham (and Warwickshire), the Grammar Schools have the same exam. The exam is set by GL (Granada Learning) and their 11 plus exams have two papers. Both papers will have sections covering English comprehension, Verbal Reasoning, Maths, Non-Verbal Reasoning, and Spatial Reasoning. Each paper is multiple choice and lasts approximately an hour.
The Maths 11 plus topics cover core skills taught throughout Key Stage 2, including a large majority of National Curriculum guidelines for Year 6. However, there may be topic areas in the 11 plus exams that children may not have been taught at primary school, or may not yet have even come across before.
As the 11 plus is designed to measure a child’s academic potential at a level beyond the general standard expected, it is important that your child is coping well with their school class work and homework, before starting their 11+ preparation. Otherwise it will be a very challenging process for them.

If your child suits the 11 plus, we will enrol them on our course and start to provide access to our resources. In our face to face sessions your child will learn the skills and techniques to help them on their 11 plus journey.
